Hello Calhoun County Citizens-
First, let me thank you for your past support. I look
forward to working with you in this new campaign. I
graduated from Wellborn High School in 1971 and
Jacksonville State University in 1975 with a Degree in
Law Enforcement. I worked 14 years as a Deputy
Sheriff, six years as Administrator of Calhoun County’s
Enhanced 9-1-1 system and 15 years as your Sheriff.
I still live in the Wellborn Community with my wife,
Annalisa. My children, Laura and Lee, are Wellborn
graduates as well and now working in public safety.
My mother Earlene lives near me. I am a Christian and
an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in
Alexandria.
It has been my honor to have devoted my professional career to protecting my community, my
county and my country. The Constitution of the United States of America is the document that
our rights and freedoms are based upon. In 1975 I took an oath to support and defend the
Constitution and I have renewed that oath regularly through the years. With the threat of
terrorism, that oath has more meaning than ever before for the American law enforcement officer.
Jesus Christ is my Savior and I am proud to be a Southern Democrat. Over the past 10 to 15
years people that ascribe to that political position are harder to find. Some say that the Democratic
Party has left the south, but I do not agree with that idea. As do many other southern democrats,
I strongly disagree with the National Democratic Party’s stance on a number of issues. I also
strongly disagree with those from other parties that try to label me for their political benefit as
well. A not so new political strategy has evolved where other parties try to label people that
disagree with their political views as non-patriotic and non-Christian.
The individual freedoms and democratic form of government created by our founding fathers is
still the best form of government on the earth today. Our government is based on the principle
that all people have the freedom to live their lives as they choose. I don’t want the federal, state or
any government to tell me how to worship. Because so many people want to tear down our
nation, Abraham Lincoln’s words, “that government of the people, by the people and for the
people, shall not perish from the earth” are as important for us to remember today as they were in
Gettysburg.
I believe in the American dream: If I work hard enough I can be anyone or do anything I choose.
Our form of government and the freedoms we enjoy have allowed me to obtain an education, have
the opportunity to work for a fair wage and aspire to political office. My government allows me
to worship my God as my faith dictates. I thank God I live in America and may he continue to
bless our country.
